De La Hoya vs Pacquiao: Software Simulation Results

OK it's been a while. I got so busy having grabbed my dream career of being a software engineer. I am actually an ECE graduate from the University of the Philippines (UP). I used to work for Astec Emerson as an Electrcal (Electronics) Design Engineer. But my passion is really for software engineering. So I took a risk, accepted a low paying job as a Junior Programmer in late 2006. I moved up the ranks, bacame a (Regular) Programmer and was even given a task to become a Java Trainer. And currently I have been blessed to be a Software Engineer for Lawson Software.

That being said. The "Dream Match" between 2 legends has revived my passion for writing about Philippine boxing (plus I now have extra time to do it again, after settling down to a new career). Mexican-American 6-weight division champ Oscar De La Hoya will be sluggin' it out with the Philippine's very own 5-weight division champ Manny Pacquiao (counting his Ring Featherweight Title) tomorrow morning (Manila time) in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Since I am a software engineer, for me there is no better way to predict the outcome of the fight but through professional sports software simulation. I ran a test on a highly popular software for pro-boxing simulation and I'd like to share my results and interpretation.

Notes:

* Expect damage to be done on both sides of Manny's face. Manny came prepared for Oscar's big left hook. But Manny, with his "all-out" style of offense would still get hit by the hook. Manny will receive right straights a'plenty as well as his defensive effort is mostly for the left.

* Expect an almost shut if not totally bleeding right eye for Oscar. Manny's left straight will really hurt Oscar. If Steve Forbes can hurt Oscar's mug, Manny can destroy it.

* Expect plenty of body shots from both fighters.

Results:

* Oscar will dominate the first 2 rounds, capitalizing on his height and reach advantage. Oscar should create enough damage on both sides of Manny's face to have people start affirming the" mismatch theory".

* Oscar will start to fade in the 3rd round. This should be due to his age and weight reduction. 3rd round should be a toss-up.

* Manny will start picking it up from the 4th. Oscar's punches would be read like a comic book from here on.

* Manny will continue to pour it on until he catches Oscar with a big punch on the 6th that would put the Golden Boy down for the count.

* Manny would smell blood and finish things up on the 7th round with another big punch.

* Manny would win via KO in the 7th.

The World Awaits No More

MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, NV, USA - Two Filipino young guns has proven themselves against world class opposition both via a very convincing Unanimous Decision..

On the first televised bout, Rey "Boom-Boom" Bautista won the WBO Super Bantamweight Title Eliminator match over erstwhile undefeated Argentinian Sergio Manuel "Rocky" Medina for the right to challenge WBO Sper Bantamweight champ Juan Ponce de Leon. The scores after 12 rounds goes - Dave Moretti 116-108, C.J. Ross 115-109 and Paul Smith 115-109 - all in favor of Bautista.

It was a very entertaining fight, which was won by Bautista through savage body punching in the earlier rounds and accurate head hunting in the late rounds. Medina was down on the canvas on th 6th and 11th rounds. Bautista though was counted for a KO in the 7th round when he went groggy after being hit by a right straight from Medina.

Bautista improved to 23-0 (17KOs) as Medina dropped to 28-1 (16KOs).

Meanwhile, on one of the non-televised bouts, Alex John "Bazooka" Banal defeated veteran Mexican Juan Alberto "The Monster" Rosas with the score of 78-73, 78-73, 76-75.

Banal improved to 13-0-1 (10KOs) as Rosas dropped to 23-3-0 (22KOs).

Robbery In Battle of Cebu

Cebu City Sports Complex, Cebu, Philippines - String of great victories happened for Filipino boxers against foreign guests but the party was spoiled by a robbery of unbelievable proportions.

The Dream Was Robbed
Z "The Dream" Gorres was robbed of the WBO Super Flyweight Crown in his own turf. Defending champ, Mexican Fernando "Cochulito" Montiel was awarded the fight on a silver platter by judges Raul Caiz (115-11) and Chuck Gampa (114-112). Referee Samuel Viruet contributed to the blatant crime by deducting points from Gorres for holding (a usual scene in boxing) without prior warnings. Only judge Danny Nelson saw it correctly by scoring it 111-115 for Gorres.

Gorres undeservedly fell to 26-2-1 (14 KOs) while Montiel improved to 33-2-1 (24 KOs).

"Boom-Boom" Makes Another Bang-Bang
Rey "Boom-Boom" Bautista destroyed Mexican Marino "Zaino" Gonzalez via a 3rd round KO, winning the Vacant WBO Inter-Continental Super Bantamweight Title and the Vacant WBO Youth Super Bantamweight Title.

Bautista improved to 22-0 (17 KOs), Gonzalez fell to 29-9 (15 KOs).

"The Executioner" Overwhelmes "The Terminator"
Jimrex "The Executioner" Jaca KO'ed Indonesian KO-artist Simson "The Terminator" Butar-Butar in the 7th round of their encounter for the latter's WBO Asia Pacific Super Featherweight Title. It was a weird ending, as Butar-Butar apparently fell down intentionally after suffering 6 rounds of beating.

Jaca was able to avenge fellow Filipino, Czar Amonsot, who fell victim to Butar-Butar 5 months ago.

Jaca is now 28-3-1 (13 KOs) while Butar-Burat is now 15-6-1 (11 KOs).

"Bazooka" Blasted Thai
Alex John "Bazooka" Banal scored a 1st round KO against Thai Komrit "3K Battery/Eveready Gym" Lukkuongmuekol. Banal dropped the Thai for good on the 2:11 mark of the initial round.

Banal now sports a 12-0-1 (10 KOs) record while Lukkuongmuekol drops to 15-3-0 (11Kos).

"Milenyo" Storms Through Cebu
Youngster minimumweight, Milan "Milenyo" Melindo kept his record unblemished by winning a Technical Decision over Alex "Maasin Bomber" Aroy in their 6-round encounter.

Melindo now has a clean 10-0-0 (2 KOs) record with Aroy dropping to a 12-4-1 (6 KOs) record.

Rout In The Philippine Summer Capital Of Baguio

Baguio Convention Center, Baguio City, Philippines - Heavy-fisted youngsters, Flyweight Draian "Little Espinosa" Francisco and Super Bantamweight Bernabe "The Real Deal" Concepcion, made quick work of their respective foes.

Francisco TKO'ed compatriot Edwin Tumbaga in the 0:55 mark of the 2nd round. Meanwhile, Concepcion finished off Korean visitor, Jae Chun Moon, in the 1:59 mark in the 4th round.

Francisco improved to 11-0, 8KOs (12-0) while Tumbaga drops to 2-5, 2KOs. Concepcion on the other hand now has a 20-1-1 (11KOs) record and Jae drops to a dismal 1-6-0 (1KO) record.

Gentle Giant Back On Winning Track

Archaic Hall, Amagasaki, Hyogo, Japan - Rev "Gentle Giant" Santillan is back after a long hiatus, defeating Japanese Shana Kisaragi via a convincing Unanimous Decision (98-93, 97-93, 96-94). Santillan now eyes another crack at the OPBF crown.

Santillan improves to 23-3-1 (16 KOs) while Kisaragi now owns a dismal 5-4-3 (2 KOs) record.

"The Czar" Wins The WBO Asia Pacific Lightweight Title

Seoul, Korea - Caesar "The Czar" Amonsot took the Vacant WBO Asia Pacific Lightweight Title in enemy territory via a split decision. Amonsot defeated Daun Chung via a controversial split decision.

It was reportedly a one-sided fight but the Korean judge scored the bout 113-115. Filipino judge Salven Lagumbay scored it 119-109 and New Zealand's Bruce McTavish scored it 115-113 for the the Filipino.

Chang's nose was bleeding on the first round and his left eye was swollen all through out the fight.

Amonsot's record improved to 18-2-1 (10KOs), Chung dropped to 8-2 (3KOs).

The PacMan proved himself to be the best boxer P4P in Asia and at least second in the world (even best in the world to many) by beating the hell out of Mexican great Erik "El Terrible" Morales (48-4-0, 34KOs) a second time. Pacquiao finished Morales in the 3rd round of his WBC Super Featherweight International Title defense.

I moved Gorres high up on my list after a nasty beating of Indon Sonny Manakane. Gorres proved that he can also pack a mean punch and he is not just an excellent tactician. Manakane's corner mercifully stopped the fight in the 4th round. It's not that Manakane is a bigtime boxer, but I've been keeping Gorres at the lower part of my list because of a possible lack in fire. But he definitely deserves to be at the top portion of the list if one would note his two other previous fights, victorious fights against Colombian Pedro Rincon "El Torito" Miranda (30-10-2, 25KOs) and Thai Waenpetch Chuwatana (23-7-2, 14KOs). Gorres is now preparing to fight Fernando "Cocholito" Montiel for the WBO Super Flyweight Title under the "Philippines vs Mexico - World Cup of Boxing" showdown on March 4 in Cebu City, Philippines.

Academy for Sports Excellence (ASPIRE), Doha, Qatar - The boxing team of the Philippines made a very impressive showing in the recently concluded Doha Asian Games. The team hauled a total of 2 golds and 2 bronzes for flag and country.

Flyweight Violito Payla won the gold over Somjit JongJohor of Thailand (31:15) while Bantamweight Joan Tipon won the gold over Han Soon Chul of South Korea (21:10).

Godfrey Castro won the bronze in the Light Flyweight while Genebert Basadre won the bronze in the Lightweight division.

Boom-Boom Remained Undefeated, Defeats Cocky Brazilian

St.Pete Times Forum, Tampa, FL, USA - Rey "Boom-Boom" Bautista blasted veteran Brazilian campaigner, Giovanni "Sugar" Andrade, to submission within 3 rounds. Andrade, the reigning World Boxing Comission Super Bantamweight Titlist, was forced to retire at the beginning of the 4th round after consulting with the ringside physician to whom he complained of having a hard time to breath after 3 full rounds of punishment to the body by Bautista.

The win was big for Bautista who kept his record unblemished and was able to set a title match against WBO Super Bantamweight Titlist, Daniel Ponce De Leon on February 2007.

Also extatic about Bautista's Dcember 2 win was Oscar "Golden Boy" De La Hoya, who is the Filipino's promoter. De La Hoya even dubbed Bautista as "The Next Manny Pacquiao" prior to the fight.

The 20 yrs-old Bautista improved to 21-0 (16KOs) while Andrade dropped to 52-10 (43KOs).

Dondon Sultan Captures WBF Welterweight Croiwn

Suntec Int. Convention Centre, Singapore - Dondon "El Supremo" Sultan captured the vacant WBF Welterweight Title (a less important alphabet title) November 25th.

Sultan won the title by defeating Australian Eddie "Psycho" Delic via Unanimous Decision. The scores went: Dave Hedgecock 117-113, Hengtrakul 115-112, Oomsin Wattanakul 115-112 all in favor of Sultan.

The win was a comforting news which came almost the same time as the news of Jimrex Jaca being KO'ed by Juan Manuel Marquez in the US.

Sultan improves to 14-7-2 (7KOs) while Delic dropped to 11-7-2 (2KOs).

Jaca Gallantly Falls In Battle

Dodge Arena, Hidalgo, TX, USA - A very game Jimrex "The Executioner" Jaca was KO'ed by Mexican great, Juan Manuel Marquez, in the 9th round of their battle for the Interim WBO Featherweight Title.

Marquez avenged the defeat of fellow Mexican great, Erik Morales in the hands of Filipino Manny Pacquiao, by knocking out another Filipino southpaw in Jaca.

Despite losing, Jaca impressed many by standing toe-to-toe with Marquez for the entire match, even having the chance of disorienting the latter with a punch in the 2nd round.

The November 25 fight was action packed, with many audiences and experts even considering the fight being more exciting than the shortlived Grand Finale of the week before. Golden Boy Promotions top-honcho, Oscar de la Hoya, even went so far as to saying that no one should be able to stop Jaca in the featherweight division should Marquez decide to move up in weight.

Jaca drops to 27-3-1 (12KOs) as Maquez improved his chances to bigger paydates and his record to 46-3-1 (35KOs).

Nietes Bags The WBO Asia Pacific Minimumweight Title

Sports and Cultural Complex, Mandaue City, Cebu, Philippines - Donnie "The Snakeman" Nietes made quick work of visiting Indon Heri Amol to capture the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Minimumweight Title.

The fight only lasted for 5mins and 14secs, after Nietes KO'ed Amol in the 2nd round.

Nietes now holds a 19-1-3 (11KOs) and Amol has 19-5-2 (6KOs).

Grand Finale : Feverish PacMan Gobbles Up El Terrible

Thomas & Mack Center, Las Vegas, NV, USA - October18, Pinoy pound-4-pound phenom, Manny "PacMan" Pacquiao destroyed future hall-of-famer, Mexican Erik "El Terrible" Morales on the third and final installment of their now legendary match-up.

PacMan dropped the legendary Mexican 3 times, once on the 2nd round and then twice on the 3rd canto to finish the fight off at the 2:57 mark, to be exact. All of this despite having a fever due to toncilitis. In fact, a few hours before the fight Pacquiao reportedly asked his coach, Freddie Roach, if the fight can be rescheduled, this due to his fever, aching head and throat. Displaying once more his great heart, the champion from General Santos City, Philippines just sucked it all up for pride and country.

The Filipino overwhelmed the Mexican with his power and speed. The former also revealed new components of his arsenal, which are the left and right hooks. In fact, Morales' first knockdown was caused by one mighty left hook. The second knockdown was brought about by swift combinations of left/right hooks and left straights. But for the final knockdown, Manny served up his nasty right jab, left straight combinations to finish the job.

"The Grand Finale" was indeed very memorable. Immediately after the fight, Manny went to Erik's corner to check on the latter and gave him a hug. Manny also took the hand ("mano" - a sign of respect for the elderly in the Philippines, done by taking the elder's hand and making the elder's backhand touch one's forehead) of Erik's father/trainor, José Luis “Maestro” López. When it was time to announce the winner, referee Vic Drakulich raised Manny's right hand at the same time, Erik, recovered from his ordeal, took Manny's left hand and raised it too.

Pacquaio's record improved to 43-3-2 (34KOs) and Erik's record dropped to 48-5 (34KOs).

"The Hawaiian Punch" Was Given A Disappointing Draw

Brian "The Hawaiian Punch" Viloria failed to take back the WBC Light Flyweight Title from Omar Nino "Giant Killer" Romero.

Romero kissed the canvas twice, once on the 5th round and then once more on 9th round, but the fight still ended in Majority Draw. The draw was highly attributed to Brian's performance on the last few rounds wherein he failed to look busy.

Viloria's record is now 19-1-1 (12KOs) while Romero's record is now 24-2-2 (10KOs).

"The Iron Man" Showed His Wares In American Soil

Bernabe "The Iron Man" Concepcion defeated erstwhile undefeated Mexican Joksan "El Torito" Hernandez for the vacant Vacant WBC Youth Super Bantamweight Title.

The judges scores went: Robert Hoyle 98-92, Ed Kugler 96-93, Patricia Morse Jarman 96-93 - all in favor of Bernabe giving the 18yrs-old Filipino a Unanimous Decision win.

Concepcion improved to 20-1-1 (11KOs) while Hernandez dropped to 11-1 (6KOs).

Labao Says Goodbye To Perfect Record

Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan - Undefeated Filipino super featherweight Rey Labao, was upset by Japanese Hironori Bando in their 6-round encounter. Tne November 11 fight was the first time for Labao to fight outside of the Philippines. The judges scored the bout 56-59, 56-58 and 57-58, all in favor of the local boy.

Labao's previously undefeated record now stands 12-1 (8KOs), while Bando improved to 17-8-8 (6KOs).

Laurente Snags Regional Title From Thailand

Chaiyaphum, Thailand - Dennis Laurente brings home the PABA Lightweight Title from Thailand via a rare Split Decision (SD) win against local boy Somchai Nakbalee.

Two of the judges scores it 114-113, 116-113 for Laurente and another judge saw it 113-114 for the defending champ Nakbalee.

Nakbalee was undefeated prior to the fight and the fight was his 3rd attempt to defend the title. Incidentally, the title was snatched by Nakbalee from another Filipino veteran, Fernando Montilla. His previous two defenses were also against Filipinos, Arnel Porras (5-9-1) and Ariel Tinampay (6-4-1), who were virtual pushovers, lambs led to the slaughter so to speak.

Laurente improved his record to 25-3-5 (12KOs) and Nakbalee dropped to 9-1-1 (3KOs).

Amateur Boxing: Tipon Wins Lone Philippine Tammer Cup Gold

Tampere, Finland - Joan Tipon defeated Canadian Isho Shiba, 21-7, to win the Bantamweight Division gold in the Tammer Cup International Boxing Championships.

The gold medal is the only gold medal won by the Philippines which ended up in 4th place overall with a 1-2-2 gold-silver-bronze tally. France snagged the overall title with 5 golds with Australia and Hungary finishing 2nd and 3rd place respectively with 2 gold medals each.

Violito Payla lost the Light Flyweight gold to rapid-punching Hungarian Pal Bedak, 30-16.

Don Haskins Center, El Paso, TX, USA - Veteran campaigner Gerry Penalosa scored a very big KO win over former WBO Bantamweight Champ and reigning WBO Latino Bantamweight Champ, Mauricio "Cry Baby" Martinez of Panama. Using very powerful right hooks and left straights, Penalosa dropped his opponent as early as the 1st round. Penalosa continued his dominance and in the 3rd round was able to cut the Panamanian. Martinez was dropped once more in the 4th round. And then finally Martinez kissed the canvas in the 1:06 mark of the 9th round. A TKO win was then awarded to the 34 yrs-old Penalosa.

Z "The Dream" Gorres, more popularly known for his methodical boxing skills rather than his punching power, showcased his stopping ability. Gorres outboxed Indonesian Sonny Manakane prompting the latter's corner to throw in the towel at the 4th round of their supposedly 10-round super flyweight fight.

Z's record now improves to 26-1-1 (14KOs) and his promotional outfit, Golden Boy Promotions, is eyeing a title shot for him, possibly in December against WBO Super Flyweight champ Fernando "Cochulito" Montiel.

Meanwhile, Manakane's record dropped to 9-3-1 (4KOs).

Ironically, in the main undercard, Alex John "Bazooka" Banal, known for his magnificent punching power, scored a Unanimous Decision win. AJ won over Indonesian Angky Angkota, with scores: 90-99, 89-100, 91-98.

Amonsot was dropped 47 seconds into the 1st round and he never got the strength to stand up again. Referee Bruce McTavish stopped the fight as Amonsot hopelessly tried to stand up but was not able to.

A week before the fight, Amonsot was reported to have been kicked out of the very famous ALA Boxing Stable for being caught smoking and drinking. Few days before the fight, he was stripped of the WBO Asia Pacific Super Featherweight Title he was supposed to defend for being overweight.

Amonsot's record dropped to 17-2-1 (10KOs), his two losses were both dealt by Butar Butar. Meanwhile, the latter improved to 15-5-1 (11KOs).

Viloria Lithelessly Loses WBC Crown; Gabi Awesome In Come-Back Fight

Orleans Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, NV, US - Thursday night, August 8, Filipino-Hawaiian Brian "Hawaiian Punch" Viloria failed in his 2nd defense of the WBC Light Flyweight Title as he lost via Unanious Decision against Mexican challenger Omar Nino Romero.

Taking nothing from Romero, who in every way deserves the win, Viloria's showing was totally litheless and anemic. It was definitely a surprise as Viloria is known for a very active, though tactical, style of boxing.

Romero did nothing special, but he was the more active fighter in all of the 12 rounds. Viloria was only contented on waiting on Romero to counter.

The scores went: Adalaide Byrd (118-110), Chuck Giampa (117-111), Mark Green (117-112), all in favor of Romero.

Romero now has a couple of big names under his belt. Aside from Viloria, Romero already defeated Jorge Arce.

Omar now has a 24-2-1 (10KOs) record while the erstwhile undefeated Viloria drops to a 19-1 (12KOs) slate.

The Filipino crowd who watched the event did not went home unhappy though. On one of the undercards, Diosdado "Lion Heart" Gabi performed wonderfully in his come-back fight after his devastating loss against Vic Darchinyan.

Gabi went up in weight and fought as a Bantamweight for the first time. He went against Colombian veteran Mauricio "El Pintoso" Pastrana.

Chumash Casino Resort, Santa Ynez, CA, USA - The former WBO Asia Pacific Flyweight Champ and current NABF Super Flyweight Champ, Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire Jr. trashed a pathetic Mexican fighter named Jose Luis Cardenas. Donaire won via TKO in the 1:48 mark of the 2nd round after a cracking left hand which found the face of Cardenas. The fight was an 8-round non-title match held last July 29.

Cardenas was just a substitute for Jovanny Soto, who carries a much respectable record. Promotional issues came up, Soto opted to fight with another opponent and Cardenas was pulled in to substitute.

Donaire is also born in General Santos City, Philippines - the place where Pound 4 Pound great Manny "PacMan" Pacquiao hails. But now Donaire is based in in California.

Talented Upstarts Showed Wares In Binangonan

Judges Salvador Lopez and Efipanio Almeda scored it 97-93 for Sonsona while judge Ricardo Canlas scored it 94-96 for Escol.

Sonsona advanced to 14-1 (6KOs) and Escol dropped to an ugly 2-4 (2KOs) slate.

Meanwhile, on one of the undercard, light flyweight, former amateur standout Danilo Lerio started making waves in the pro ranks by defeating Rey Migreno via a 10-round Unanimous Decision. The decision came at the 1:58 mark of the 7th round of the 10-round match, which is part of the Sandugo Festival celebrations (July 22).

Allanic improved to 13-1 (5KOs) while Pena dropped to 4-3 (2KOs).

On the main event - The Battle of the Undefeated - another Super Flyweight, Alex John Banal convincingly defeated Indonesian Ali Rochmad via 5th round stoppage.The three-time Indonesian SUper Flyweight Champion, Rochmad was decked twice in the first canto and then was finally finished when he dropped on his knees at the 5th. Banal is another very promising fighter that comes out of Bohol. A fighter which would be featured in this site more and more as he takes on more challenges in the ring. Banal improved to 8-0-1 (7KOs) as Rochmad dropped to 12-1-0 (9KOs).

Part of the festivities is an exhibition fight between Pinoy phenom Rey "BoomBoom" Bautista and Edwin Gastador. Bautista, who missed his chance of having the opportunity to KO Mexican Alejandro Montiel in the Pacman-Larios undercard, blew off some steam by knocking out Gastador.

Randy Suico Failed Miserably Against Juan Diaz

MGM Grand, Las Vegas, NV, USA - Randy "Fists of Stone" Suico failed miserably in his attempt to snatch the WBA Lightweight Title from Mexican-American Juan "Baby Bull" Diaz.

It was a one-man show right from the starting bell. Diaz was the faster, busier and more intelligent fighter. Suico was a sucker for almost everything that Diaz threw, and Diaz threw a lot, a lot more than what Suico has to show. Suico has some solid power shots that found Diaz's gloves, but that was it.

Suico's plan was flawed from the get-go. He was the taller and longer fighter, but what he did from the beginning was fight in the inside and fire a lot of uppercuts. What he could have done was to fight from a distance, use long left jabs to set-up his powerful right uppercuts and hooks. But that never happened. The fight was mercifully stopped at the 9th by referee Joe Cortez, who has threatened to stop the fight as early as the 5th round.

In Suico's credit, he came into the fight in very great shape, he took everything that Diaz has but he never kissed the canvas. And in his defense, he was made to fight an undefeated champion in his first fight in the lightweight division.

The fight proved that all of Suico's critics are right. That he was all power - no boxing at all. His fight showed no intelligence against a true fighter. His power is just for super featherweight whipping boys and has no chance against quality lightweights.

All is not lost for Suico though, he may opt to change his trianer, someone that could make him move and fight with a little something between his ears, and not just stand up like a punching bag with a mean punch. He might want to consider changing his manager too. The poor boy is obviously poorly managed. The kid was offered a chance to train under Freddy Roach, but his management is too proud to accomodate the generous offer. Also, manager Joe Koizumi would like the fight to continue, despite the fact that it is a no-contest. Also, the kid was made to fight with patsy, nondescript fighters for years. Really all is not lost, well this would be assuming that Suico gets another chance of this magnitude again.

Suico fell to a 24-3, 21KOs as Diaz improved to 30-0, 15KOs.

Amonsot Over Ortiz Via A Very Convincing Decision
The first televised fight was between WBO Asia Pacific Super Featherweight Titlist Caesar "Czar" Amonsot versus Mexican Silverio Ortiz. The bout lasted the full route and the final scores were all in favor of Amonsot for the Unanimous Decision win.

Amonsot now sports a 17-1-1 (10KOs) record while Silverio Ortiz drops to 17-10 (7KOs).

Penalosa Wins Via Decision Over Rojas
WBF Super Flyweight Champ Gerry Penalosa went against a young Tomas Rojas. At the final bell the scorecards read 97-93, 98-92, 98-93 all in favor of Penalosa for a Unanimous Decision win.

Penalosa notched his 50th win and now sports a 50-5-2 (33KOs) while Rojas drops to 22-9 (14KOs).

Technical Decision For Jaca Over Marquez
It was a Technical Decision win for Jimrex "The Bomb" Jaca over an ever charging Hector Javier Marquez. The match was stopped at the 7th round after Jimrex's left brow started bleeding profusely. The cut was caused by an accidental headbutt in the 2nd round. In return, Jaca made Marquez's nose bleed from punches at the time the fight was stopped. The scores were tallied at the 7th and all read 60-53 for Jaca.

Jaca's record now stands 27-2-1 (12KOs) and Marquez falls to 28-21 (17KOs).

Rare Unanimous Decision Win For Pacquiao Over Larios
It was a rare Unanimous Decision win for Manny "PacMan" Pacquiao, the WBC International Super Featherweight Champion, who is used to win via KO, over Oscar "Chololo" Larios. Larios was decked twice during the fight, once in the 7th and once in the 12th round. Larios' left eye was bludgeoned beyond recognition, while Manny's face was so clean when the fight ended. The 22 yrs-old Labao, dominated the fight in the early goings as he digged the Korean with effective body shots. But Kim showed why he was crowned Korean Bantamweight Champ when he came back strongly in the late rounds. But the coe back proved too little too late for the visitor and the scorecard all read 95-93, all in favor of Labao.

Home Depot Center, Carson, CA, USA - Another successful US stint for Z "The Dream " Gorres as he dominated veteran Colombian opponent, Pedro Rincon "El Torito" Miranda in their 10-round Super Flyweight match-up.

It was all Gorres, as he displayed dazzling combinations and powerful finishes with his left hand. The self-managed Miranda hit the deck in the first, fifth and tenth round but braverly managed to elude a knockout loss. All three judges scored 100-87, all in favor of Gorres.

It was another great win for the Philippines and Golden Boy Promotions. A week ago another Filipino Golden Boy, Rey "Boom-Boom" Bautista, won via a convincing 3rd round KO.

The win upped Gorres' record to 24-1-1, 12KOs while Miranda dropped to 30-11-2, 25KOs.

The match was an undercard of the Johnny Gonzalez vs Fernando Montiel, WBO Bantamweight Title fight and the Daniel Ponce De Leon vs Gerson Guerrero, WBO Super Bantamweight Title fight, May 27th.

Underdog Lito Sisnorio Upsets Undefeated Thai Youth Champion

Pattivikorn Market, Bangkok, Thailand - Virtual unknown Lito "Angelito" Sisnorio of Kidapawan City, Philippines destroyed erstwhile undefeated Thai Fahpetchnoi Kratingdaenggym in 3 rounds and stole the WBC Youth Flyweight Title.

It was supposed to be another "set-up match" in Thailand - matching a good Thai boxer against a patsy foreigner. But Sisnorio, who just moved up to Flyweight, is not someone the Thais expected him to be - as he wildly dropped the Thai champion three times, in round one, round two and the last time with a right hook at 1:58 of round five.

It was a big upset for the Thais. Kratingdaenggym, who is ranked #5 by WBC, cited weight problems as an excuse, but the win by Sisnorio should make Thai boxing promoters think twice when staging "set-up matches" that involve Filipinos pugs.

The win upped Sisnorio's record to 4-2, 2KOs while Kratingdaenggym dropped to 13-1, 9KOs.

Boom-Boom Still Flawless At Super Bantamweight

Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA, USA - It was a dazzling display of power and finesse, as Rey "Boom-Boom" Bautista blasted Nicaraguan Roberto "El Chucky" Bonilla by knocking him out in the 3rd round of their supposedly 10-round Super Bantamweight match-up.

It was the first time for Bautista to step-up to Super Bantamweight but power was no problem, in fact speed became the winning factor.

It was all Bautista since the opening bell. Bautista tags Bonilla with powerful shots from all angles, starting from the second half of the 1st round, but Bonilla never backed-down. In round 3, Bautista was deducted a point for an accidetnal low blow, but it did not matter as referee Pat Russell stopped the fight at the 2:36 mark after Bonilla falls and fails to get up after a wicked body shot.

Boom-Boom received great accolades from the American sportscasters covering the bout for HBO.

"He is one of the best 19-year-old fighters I’ve ever seen. He’s already a polished fighter," remarked commentator Bob Sheridan.

"That’s what future world champions look like in fights like this" said Dave Bontempo who was with Sheridan in doing the coverage.

Boom-Boom upped his record to 20-0, 15KOs while Bonilla dropped to 22-8, 13KOs.

The bout was the 2nd supporting undercard for the Marco Antonio Barrera vs Rocky Juarez, WBC Super Featherwieght Title fight, May 20th, which ended on a controversial win for Barrera.

This was the 2nd attempt for Sultan, who is also currently the Philippine Welterweight champ, to caputre the PABA title. His first attempt against Thai Parkoom Jangphonal in Bangkok was a failure after losing via Unanimous Decision.

Solopov, who was born in Western Siberia, was an excellent amateur fighter who had won 180 of 205 bouts. He had won the lightweight division title at the 1998 games in Argentina. Solopov's victim in the gold-medal round was Miguel Cotto, the popular World Boxing Organisation junior welterweight champion, who is regarded as the hottest youngster in the sport.

Sultan improved to 13-6-2, 7KOs while Solpov dropped to 12-1-0, 9KOs.

Lucky Star Casino, Concho, OK, USA - May 5th, California-based Glenn "The Filipino Bomber" Donaire successfully snatched the NABA Flyweight Title from American Cesar "El Gallito" Lopez via Unanimous Decision (UD). The Generel Santos City-born Donaire also won the Vacant WBO NABO Flyweight Title.

Donaire earned the nod of all three judges, Gerald Ritter (112-115), David Sutherland (110-117), Barbara Bonnick (111-116).

Mayol Suffered First Defeat Against WBC Minimumweight Champ

Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan - Rodel "Magnum Force" Mayol suffered his first ever setback in 23 fights against Thai WBC Minimumweight defending champion, Eagle Kyowa - May 6th.

It was a very close fight. The Filipino challenger dominated the champ 1st half of the fight, but the Thai champ showed why he is at the top by a great comeback. The champ even scored a knockdown at the 12th round.

The fight ended with all neutral judges scoring the fight for the champion. Judge Gale Van Hoy scored 110-117 while Judge Chuck Hassett scored 112-115 and Judge Alejandro Rochin gave 113-114, all in favor of Kyowa.

It was a great and closely contested fight that is another candidate for fight of the year.

At the sound of the final bell, the Thai champ got a closed right eye and a big gash at the left brow while the Filipino challenger got a big welt at the right cheek. Both fighters were sent to the hospital because of vomiting after the fight. Mayol was cleared after precautionary medical tests, but Kyowa's boxing future is yet to be determined as he reportedly suffered a career threatening crack on his right orbital bone.

Mayol dropped to 22-1-0, 17KOs, and the Kyowa improved to 16-1-0, 6KOs.

Not all bad news for Philippine boxing though, in the main undercard, Malcolm "Eagle Eye" Tunacao successfully defended his OPBF Bantamweight Title via a 12th round TKO of Yasuo Kijima. Tunacao advanced to 20-1-3, 14KOs as Kijima dropped to 19-9-2, 5KOs.

On the main match, Alex John "Batang Ermita" Banal KO'ed his Thai opponent, Bangsaen Sithpraprom in the 2nd round of their own 8-round Super Flyweight match. Banal showed everybody why Golden Boy Promotions has been eyeing him. He improved to 6-0-1 (5KOs), Sithpraprom dropped to 5-2-0 (3KOs).

Gentle Giant Lose OPBF Welterweight Title

Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan - Rev "The Gentle Giant" Santillan failed to defend his OPBF Welterweight Title against Japanese Hiroshi Yamauchi, April 20.

Rev lost via Split Decision (SD) in the title bout. Thai judge Anek Hongtongkam scored the fight 113-114 and Japanese judge Ukrid Sarasas scored 113-115 both in favor of Yamaguchi while Filipino judge Alex Vidal scored it 115-112 for Santillan.

Santillan dropped to 22-3-1, 16KOs while Yamaguchi improve to 15-0-1, 10KOs.

Gabriel Pumar Takes WBC International Minimumweight Crown, Feverish Benedict Suico Lost

Wembley Arena, Johannesburg, GT, South Africa - Minimumweight Gabriel "BonBon" Pumar just took the WBC International Minimumweight Title from South African Tshepo Lefele March 31st.

Pumar knocked the champion down in the 5th round, but it was ruled by referee Andy Smale as a slip. Pumar then upped the tempo in the 6th and was able to pull-off a knockdown. The champion kissed the canvas again, twice, in the 7th prompting referee Smale to stop the fight.

Pumar improved to 9-0-0 with 6KOs while Lefele dropped to 13-1-0 with 7KOs.

Meanwhile, Benedict Suico lost to South African WBC International Flyweight champion Monelisi Mhikiza Myekeni via a Unanimous Decision. The title bout ended with a score of 119-110, 118-109, 120-108 all in favor of the reigning champ. Suico has nothing to be ashamed about though, because he showed a lot of guts taking on the champion despite a fever caused by tonsilitis.

Suico dropped to 12-2-0 with 9KOs while Myekeni improved to 21-2-0 with 8KOs.

Philippine Boxing's Pound For Pound List (Q1 - 2006)

Many boxing fans have their own World P4P List. In my case, I'm more of a Philippine boxing fan than a general boxing fan. Therefore, what I have is a Philippine P4P List.

My list is not only based on a boxer's fighting record, it is also based on the quality of opponents the boxer has. A boxer with a good fighting record versus nobodies is as good as any fighter with losing records against quality opponents.

Also, punching power gets a few extra points!

If you are not yet a Philippine boxing fan, I hope you will get to know about the who's-who of Philippine boxing. If you are already a Philippine boxing fan, I hope to hear from you about your own Philippine P4P list.

Here we go...

1. Manny "PacMan" Pacquiao (41-3-2, 33KOs) - Super Featherweight
This should be a no-brainer. The PacMan is considered the most exciting boxer in the world today. He does not go for the ABC belts, but he goes for the best boxer available to fight with. His latest victim was no other than the future Hall of Famer, Erik "El Terrible" Morales, whom he KO'ed in the 10th round last February, because of this he currently ranks 2nd or 3rd on most of the World Pound For Pound lists. It is true that he does not care about the ABC belts, but he currently holds the WBC International Super Featherweight version, and is also ranked No.1 Super Featherweight contender by the WBC, WBA, WBO and Ring Magazine. He is set to fight again, June 25 against Oscar Larios in the Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City, Philippines.

2. Gerry Peñalosa (49-5-2, 33KOs) - Super Flyweight
Back from retirement, the 33yrs-old former WBC Super Flyweight champ shows hints of old glory. Last December he defeated Feliciano Dario Azuaga Ledezma of Paraguay, then 66-6-2, via a very convincing Unanimous Decision. Despite his opponents daunting resume, he knocked him twice (in the 8th and 9th rounds) and dominated the whole fight. He currently holds the little known WBF Super Flyweight title. Seeing his power at old age, ranked boxers in his weight class avoids him like a plague. He is reportedly being eyed to fight under the Manny Pacquiao vs Oscar Larios fight in June 25.

3. Brian "Hawaiian Punch" Viloria (19-0-0, 12KOs) - Light Flyweight
This Filipino-American WBC Light Flyweight champ made headlines when he KO'ed, then champion, Eric Ortiz in just one round. Last February he proved to the world that he is for real as he convincingly defended his title against Jose Antonio Aguirre (33-4-1) via Unanimous Decision despite a broken hand which he broke in the 2nd round. Atop the WBC title he is also ranked No.1 Light Flyweight contender by IBO. He is currently being set to defend his title against fellow-Filipino Juanito Rubillar in May 2006.

4. Randy "Golden Boy" Suico (24-2-0, 21KOs) - Lightweight
A guy with an iron hand, Randy was recognized as the OPBF Super Featherwieght champ for 5 years. This was until February 2006, as he relinquished his title to move up to lightweight after 5 succesful defenses. His last defense was against Japanese Ryuhei Sugita (30-2-2) whom he TKO'ed on the 4th round in Japan last February 5. But much is left to be desired from Randy as most of his fights seem to be against patsies. Also, he failed to win against fairly good fighters like, Mzonke Fana and Javier Jauregui. I gave him a chance because his fights against the said fighters reportedly had the home-town-cooking treatment. Randy better start winning in the Lightweight category against credible fighters though, else I'll drop him from the list in the manner he treats his patsy opponents. After moving up in weight, he is is still internationally ranked. He is ranked No.1 Lightweight contender by the OPBF and WBO-Asia Pacific. He is also being eyed to fight under the Manny Pacquiao vs Oscar Larios bout in June 25.

5th and 6th place finishers can easily be exchanged in my opinion. I just gave Mayol the 5th spot because he now gets a shot at the world title.

5. Rodel "Magnum Force" Mayol (22-0-0, 17KOs) - Minimumweight
Undefeated OPBF Minimumweight champ, drew much attention to himself when he TKO'ed Mexican Lorenzo Trejo (24-12-0) in the latter's own hometown last January. The only downside about this fighter is that he fights in the smallest weight category which draws the least international attention. He is ranked No.1 Minimumweight contender by WBC and WBO. And he gets a crack at the WBC Minimumweight title against Japan-based Thai Eagle Kyowa in Tokyo, May 6th.

6. Rey "Boom-Boom" Bautista (19-0-0, 14KOs) - Bantamweight
Power and speed are the tools of this 19yrs-old kid. He definitely has the right stuff to be the next "PacMan", and this was the reason why he was just signed by Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions. He rose to fame when he knocked out Felix Flores in the 3rd round at the Staple Center. But what secured his young career was his last 2 fights. He defended his WBO Asia Pacific Bantamweight title against Oboto Ameme (27-9-0) last November, by knocking the latter out in just 2 rounds. And then he showed lots of maturity by winning a Unanimous Decision over Gerardo Espinoza last December after being knocked down by the latter in the 2nd round. He is currently recognized by WBO as their No.1 Bantamweight contender and is now being lined-up to fight big fights, 1st in California in May 20 under the Marco Antonio Barrera - Rocky Suarez title fight and in the Philippines in July under the Manny Pacquiao - Oscar Larios showdown.

7. Z "The Dream" Gorres (23-1-1, 13KOs) - Super Flyweight
He was also signed by Golden Boy Promotions together with Rey Bautista. A good technical boxer, but is often criticized for his lack of punching power and killer instincts. His best achievement so far, was his Unanimous Decision win over veteran Waenpetch Chuwatana (23-7-2) of Thailand this month for the vacant OPBF Super Flyweight title. Golden Boy Promotions has set a fight for him in May 27 under the title fight between Jhonny Gonzalez and Fernando Montiel.

8. Rev "Gentle Giant" Santillan (22-2-1, 16KOs) - Welterweight
The lone talented Filipino campaigning above 130lbs. Lately, most of his fights are in Japan, where he can easier find opponents in his weight class. A good thing about Rev is that when you look into his fight record, you will see that he most often than not goes up against opponents with good fight records. He is no patsy-killer, and he has a good KO record to boot. Santillan carries the OPBF Welterweight title which he defended last against former OPBF Welterweight champ Kuzuhiko Hidaka (22-4-0, 16KOs) via 8th round KO. He is again set to defend his title against another Japanese, Hiroshi Yamaguchi in Tokyo, April 20th.

Now let us start with the guys who failed to win their top-class bouts.

9. Diosdado "Lion Heart" Gabi (26-3-1, 18KOs) - Flyweight
Gabi lost to Vic Darchinyan (24-0-0, 19KOs) in their IBF / IBO Flyweight Championship fight, March 3rd. Gabi fought gallantly for 7 rounds until the heavy-handed champion caught him with a big puch at the 8th for a KO.

10. Eriberto "Yukka" Gejon (21-1-1, 13KOs) - Minimumweight
Gejon lost (his only defeat) to Yutaka Niida (18-1-3) in their WBA Minimumweight Title fight, in Yokohama, September of last year via a Technical Decision. Many believed that Gejon should have won this fight. But if only Gejon has the punching power of Rodel Mayol... well, that would be the difference between 10th and 5th place.

Dreams Came True - Philippine Boxing Triumphs In Mandaue

20yrs old Super Flyweight, Robert "Cliff Smart" Allanic, won a 10-round Unanimous Decision over fellow Filipino Robert Rubillar. Allanic now has an 11-1-0 win-loss-draw card with 4KOs, while Robert fell toa 3-9-1 record.

20yrs old Lightweight, Caesar "Czar" Amonsot, also won via a Unanimous Decision. He triumphed over a very dangerous Thai, Decho Bankluaygym, in their 10-round match. Amonsot improved to 15-1-1 with 10KOs, as Bankluaygym dropped to 20-6-1 with 14KOs.

For the vacant OPBF Super Flyweight Title, 23yrs old Super Flyweight, Z "The Dream" Gorres, won, also via a Unanimous Decision, over a lethal Thai veteran, Waenpetch Chuwatana. The 12-round bout was scored 118-109 by Thai judge Pinij Prayadsub, 119-107 by Filipino judge Salven Lagumbay and 120-106 by scoring referee Bruce McTavish of New Zealand. Gorres is now 23-1-1 with 12KOs, while Chuwatana now has 23-8-2 with 14KOs.

Flywieght Benedict Suico, now carrying a 12win(9KOs), 1loss record, KO'ed Jojo Rodrigo, now 0-10-0, in the 0:27 mark of the 3rd round in their supposedly 10-round fight.

Lightweight Dexter "Dynamite" Delada, now with 15wins(10KOs) and only 2losses, won via Unanimous Decision against Jaime Acerda, now 10-24-0, in a 10-round bout.

Undefeated young prospects like Minimumweight Gabriel Pumar, now 8-0-0 (5KOs), and Flyweight Bogie Delada, now 8-0-0 (6KOs), also won their respective fights.

Gabi KO'ed By Darchinyan; Failed To Snatch IBO And IBF Flyweight Crowns

Chumash Casino Resort, Santa Ynez, CA, USA - March 3 has been an unfortunate day for Philippine boxing as Diosdado "Lion Heart" Gabi lost in his title fight against, IBO and IBF Flyweight Champion, Vic "The Raging Bull" Darchinyan via 8th round KO.

Diosdado did great in the first 3 rounds as the champion proved to be a no-defense all-left-hand -offense fighter. The 26yrs old Diosdado regularly the peppered Vic with good punches after dancing around the champion's own barrage. Left frustrated, the 30yrs old champ started rough-housing the Filipino in the 4th and 5th rounds, pushing him around with his gloves and his shoulders. Rounds 6 and 7 goes to the Armenian-Australian, as Gabi stopped boxing and decided to start slugging, visibly tired of all the rough-housing. Round 8 proved to be the end, Gabi was able to tag Darchinyan with a left but he mistakingly dropped the right hand. Vic finally saw an opportunity to land a nasty left hand dropping the Filipino. Gabi showed heart by standing up at the count of 8 but referee David Mendoza did a great job by stopping the fight as Gabi is still visibly glassy-eyed.

The knockout dropped Gabi to a 26(18KOs)-3-1 win-loss-draw record while Darchinyan remains undefeated with 25wins (20KOs).

Newbie Pinoy Pug, Bernabe Concepcion, Won PABA Youth Super Featherweight Title

Super Brand Mall, Shanghai, China - Hot new prospect, Bernabe Concepcion, won the Vacant PABA Youth Super Featherweight Title over China's Wei Yang Jiang, February 24.

Jiang was down on the canvas four times in the supposedly 8round bout and the 18yrs old Bernabe cemented the win with the 4th KO on the 7th round.

Bernabe's record now stands, 3wins(3KOs) with 1draw. Jiang dropped to a 1win,1loss slate.

Up-And-Coming ALA Boy, Robert Allanic, Won Local Bout

Cultural Center, Loon, Bohol, Philippines - Up and coming Super Flyweight Robert "Cliff Smart" Allanic of Cebu's ALA Stable, won via Unanimous Decision against Jerry Manganip in their 10round bout Sunday (February 19).

Allanic dropped Manganip in the 1st and 8th round, but failed to completely knock the latter out. The bout ended with a 100-89, 98-90, 99-89 decision in favor of Allanic.

Aladdin Casino, Las Vegas, NV, USA - Filipino-American WBC Light Flyweight Champ, Brian "Hawaiian Punch" Viloria succeeded in his first title defense against Mexican Jose Antonio "El Jaguar" Aguirre, Saturday night - February 18. The champion won the fight via a hard fought 116-112, 117-111, 116-112 Unanimous Decision.

The 25yrs old Viloria, predicted a 4th round knockout victory, but it didn't happen. But what did happen was, he fought well behind a great jab to win fight over his veteran opponent. The champion though needs to learn a lot more. He seem to lack a killer instinct, as he usually backs off after connecting with few good combinations.

Despite the fight being just a Unanimous Decision win for Brian, it was very clear that he won the fight. After 12 rounds, his face remained clean while his opponent's was full of bumps. Also, Aguirre's nose bled profusely during rounds 10 thru 12, turning his white trunks to pink.

Viloria improved his unblemished record to 19wins (12KOs) and is now looking forward to move up in weight to be able to face Mexican WBC Flyweight Champ Jorge Arce in a surefire megabuck fight. Meanwhile, Jose Antonio Aguirre dropped his third straight title bout and fell to 33wins (20KOs), 5losses and 1draw.

Filipino OPBF Champs Retain Belts

International Conference Hall, Nagoya, Japan - Two Filipno OPBF Champs successfully retained their belts in contrasting fashions Sunday night, February 5.

Filipino OPBF Super Featherweight Champ Randy "Golden Boy" Suico, successfully defended his title via a convincing stoppage of Japanese Ryuhei Sugita in the 2:39 mark of the 4th round of their 12round title fight. By the win, the 26yrs old Suico improved to 24wins (21KOs) and 2losses while Sugita fell to 30wins (22KOs), 3losses and 2draws. After the beating, Sugita got a couple of broken teeth and a lacerated inner mouth.

Meanwhile, 27yrs old Filipino OPBF Bantamweight Champ Malcolm "Eagle Eye" Tunacao, retained his title but failed to take a win over Japanese Kohei Oba. Their 12round title fight ended up in a controversial draw, with a 115-115, 115-114, 113-115 scorecard. Due to the draw, Tunacao's record now stands 19wins (12KOs), 1loss and 3draws. Oba's record now stands 13wins (8KOs) and 1draw.

Victorious Friday Fight Night - Gorres And Amonsot Win Fights

Orleans Casino, Las Vegas, NV, USA - Philippine boxers continue to storm through North America as Z "The Dream"
Gorres and Czar Amonsot had won their respective fights against Mexican rivals Friday night.

Unlike recent wins by other Filipinos in North America, both fighters took the full route as they won their matches via very convincing Unanimous Decisions (UD). February 2nd, Super Flyweight Gorres scored a 98-91,98-91,99-90 UD victory against Jose Alfredo Tirado while Super Featherweight Amonsot scored a 78-73,77-74,77-74 UD vicotry against Christian Favela.

For their wins, Z Gorres improved to 22wins (12KOs), 1loss and 1draw and the 20yrs old Czar Amonsot improved to 14wins (10KOs), 1loss and 1draw. Meanwhile, Tirado dropped to 4wins and 7losses; Favela dropped to 11wins, 10losses and 4draws. Favela also suffered a serious cut in the head.

Champ In the Making - Mayol TKO's Trejo

Plaza de Toros, Cancún, Mexico - January 28th, Filipino Rodel "Magnum Force" Mayol, the reigning OPBF Minimumweight Champ, made a short work of Mexican Lorenzo "Explosivo" Trejo in their 12 round WBC Minimumwight Title Eliminator bout. Mayol TKO'ed Trejo at the 2:29 mark of the fourth round.

The Filipino dropped his opponent in the first round with a left hook to the jaw. The Mexican was dominated in rounds 2 and 3. Finally in the 4th, Magnum Force caught Explosivo with a wicked uppercut sending the latter down for good.

With this win, Mayol improved to 22wins (17 KO's), with no defeats and a right to challenge Japan-based Thai,Eagle Kyowa for the WBC Minimumweight Title. Meanwhile, Trejo dropped to 24wins, 13losses.

Jaca Wins Own Battle

While the entire Filipino nation enjoys the monumental triumph of Manny "PacMan" Pacquiao over Erik "El Terrible" Morales, another Filipino pug should also be celebrated for winning his US boxing debut.

Jimrex "Executioner" Jaca, the 22yrs old Philippine Super Featherweight Champion, won in a very convincing fashion over Mexican Geronimo Hernandez, via first round TKO on their supposedly 8 round bout. The bout was the first undercard of Morales vs Pacquiao 2, held in Thomas & Mack Center, Las Vegas, NV, USA last January 21, 2006.

Jimrex decked Hernandez twice on the first round. The second time Hernandez fell was on the 2:43 mark prompting referee Joe Cortex to stop the fight.

Via the win, Jimrex Jaca improved to 25wins (12 KO's), 1loss, 1draw while Geronimo Hernandez dropped to 14wins, 18losses, 1draw.

The Battle - Pacquiao's Iron Fist Cracks Morales' Granite Chin

Thomas & Mack Center, Las Vegas, NV, USA- It took Manny "PacMan" Pacquiao 10-rounds, to demolish the myth of Erik "El Terrible" Morales' granite chin.

January 21st, Morales vs Pacquiao 2, turned out to be a true "Battle" as both fighters decided to fight it out from the get go. It was an unusual night for the Mexican as he decided to exchange bombs with the Filipino dynamite as the former was known to be more of a tactical boxer than an outright brawler. The strategy turned out to be a disaster for the Mexican legend as the fight progressed, as with amazing hand speed and punching power the Filipino Hero dominated the fight. El Terrible, who is known for not having tasted the canvas in all of his previous 51 fights (not counting the fluke knockdown from Barrera on "Morales vs Barrera 1") was decked twice on the 10th canto, forcing referee Kenny Bayless to stop the fight.

Morales' first encounter with Pacquiao's mighty fist was on the 2nd round, where Pacquiao staggered Morales with a powerful left near the ropes, forcing the latter to take two big backward steps. At the 6th, everything got serious and Morales' was peppered with lots of combinations to the head, and was nearly down as the round was ended with the bell. At the 8th, Morales' stepped back as he was hit with a quick 1-2-3 from Pacquiao. The 10th round proved to be the end for the Mexican, as he was tagged with the Filipino with a hard left to the right ear as he ducked down for cover. The Mexican fell for the first time in his illustrious career and wast given the count by the referee. El Terrible proved his fighting heart by trying to put up a fight, but it proved futile as powerful combinations rained on him, Pacquiao had Morales down again and the referee stopped the fight.

By the win, Manny Pacquiao proved all his critics wrong. He has improved to 41wins, 3losses, 1draw (33 knockouts), and has retained the WBC International SuperFeatherweight belt.
Meanwhile, Erik Morales dropped to 48wins, 4losses (34 knockouts) and was left with a broken nose, a cut in the upper right brow and a big question of "What's next?"
