Philippine Boxing's Pound For Pound (P4P) List (Q4-2006)

The Current Top 10 Filipino Fighters

1. Manny "PacMan" Pacquiao (43-3-2, 34KOs) - Super Featherweight [1]
The PacMan proved himself to be the best boxer P4P in Asia and at least second in the world (even best in the world to many) by beating
the hell out of Mexican great Erik "El Terrible" Morales (48-4-0, 34KOs) a second time. Pacquiao finished Morales in the 3rd round of his WBC Super Featherweight International Title defense.

IBF ranked No.3 Junior Lightweight
WBA ranked No.1 Super Featherweight
WBC ranked No.1 Super Featherweight
WBO ranked No.1 Junior Lightweight

2. Gerry Penalosa (51-5-2, 34KOs) - Bantamweight [2]
Penalosa defeated Panamanian veteran Mauricio "Cry Baby" Martinez (31-7-1 , 21KOs) via a 9-round TKO in Texas last September. Gerry is currently eyeing a title clash against Mexican Jhonny Gonzalez for the WBO Bantamweight Crown under the
"Philippines vs Mexico - World Cup of Boxing" showdown on March 4 in Cebu City, Philippines.

WBC ranked No.6 Bantamweight
WBO ranked No.9 Bantamweight

3. Rey "Boom-Boom" Bautista (21-0-0. 16KOs) - Super Bantamweight [3]
After a couple of fight-cancelling injuries, the "Next Manny Pacquiao" is back. He just came from a very impressive demolition of Brazilian Giovanni "Sugar" Andrade (52-9, 43KOs) in Florida. He is now set to fight Mexican Daniel Ponce De Leon for the WBO Super Bantamweight Title under the "Philippines vs Mexico - World Cup of Boxing" showdown on March 4 in Cebu City, Philippines.

WBC ranked No.6 Super Bantamweight
WBO ranked No.1 Junior Featherweight

4. Z "The Dream" Gorres (26-1-1, 14KOs) - Super Flyweight [7]
I moved Gorres high up on my list after a nasty beating of Indon Sonny Manakane. Gorres proved that he can also pack a mean punch and he is not just an excellent tactician. Manakane's corner mercifully stopped the fight in the 4th round. It's not that Manakane is a bigtime boxer, but I've been keeping Gorres at the lower part of my list because of a possible lack in fire. But he definitely deserves to be at the top portion of the list if one would note his two other previous fights, victorious fights against Colombian Pedro Rincon "El Torito" Miranda (30-10-2, 25KOs) and Thai Waenpetch Chuwatana (23-7-2, 14KOs). Gorres is now preparing to fight Fernando "Cocholito" Montiel for the WBO Super Flyweight Title
under the "Philippines vs Mexico - World Cup of Boxing" showdown on March 4 in Cebu City, Philippines.

IBF ranked No.3 Junior Bantamweight
WBC ranked No.4 Super Flyweight
WBO ranked No.1 Junior Bantamweight

5. Randy "Fists of Stone" Suico (25-3-0, 22KOs) - Lightweight [5]
Nothing much to say about Randy. He defeated a nobody in Thai Pongpetch Chuwatana to capture the OPBF Lightweight Title. This guy would be leaving my list sooner or later, unless he starts defeating credible opponents.

WBC ranked No.6 Lightweight

6. Rodel "Magnum Force" Mayol (23-1-0, 18KOs) - Flyweight [6]
No latest action for the mighty mite from Mandaue City, Philippines after moving up to flyweight last September.

IBF ranked No.3 Mini Flyweight
WBC ranked No.3 Straweight

7. Diosdado "The Prince" Gabi (28-3-1, 20KOs) - Bantamweight [8]
Gabi retired a Mexican youngster in the person of Felipe Rivas last October. It was his second comeback fight after falling victim to Vic Darchinyan.

IBF ranked No.5 Flyweight
WBO ranked No.9 Flyweight

8. Brian "Hawaiian Punch" Viloria (19-1-1, 12KOs) - Light Flyweight [4]
Viloria took a deep plunge in the list after failing to recapture the WBC Light Flyweight Title away from the Mexican who took it from him, Omar Nino Romero. Instead Viloria got a draw, but later, Romero was found to be positive on illegal substance.

WBC ranked No.1 Light Flyweight
WBO ranked No.4 Junior Flyweight

9. Eriberto "Yukka" Gejon (22-1-1, 14KOs) - Minimumweight [9]
No news from Yukka, he still is seeking a way to truely redeem himself after failing to wrestle the WBA Minimumweight Title from Yutaka Niida in 2005.

IBF ranked No.4 Mini Flyweight
WBA ranked No.1 Minimumweight

10. Draian Francisco (10-0-0, 7KOs) - Flyweight [New]
This late-bloomer is very impressive for a new guy. He took the WBO Asia Pacific Flyweight Title from Thai Pichitchok Singmanassak which reportedly has a 9-0, 4KOs record. Francisco dropped the Thai in the 7th round for a TKO win.
