Amateur Boxing : Philippine Team Copped 2 Golds In Asiad
Academy for Sports Excellence (ASPIRE), Doha, Qatar - The boxing team of the Philippines made a very impressive showing in the recently concluded Doha Asian Games. The team hauled a total of 2 golds and 2 bronzes for flag and country.
Flyweight Violito Payla won the gold over Somjit JongJohor of Thailand (31:15) while Bantamweight Joan Tipon won the gold over Han Soon Chul of South Korea (21:10).
Godfrey Castro won the bronze in the Light Flyweight while Genebert Basadre won the bronze in the Lightweight division.

Sonsona now sports an 11-1 (2KOs) record while Allanic drops to 15-2 (7KOs) .Danilo Lerio defeats Bryan Vicera via a 5th round Technical Decision.Lerio now has a 12-1 (1KO) record versus Vicera's 9-5-2 (4KOs).

St.Pete Times Forum, Tampa, FL, USA - Rey "Boom-Boom" Bautista blasted veteran Brazilian campaigner, Giovanni "Sugar" Andrade, to submission within 3 rounds. Andrade, the reigning World Boxing Comission Super Bantamweight Titlist, was forced to retire at the beginning of the 4th round after consulting with the ringside physician to whom he complained of having a hard time to breath after 3 full rounds of punishment to the body by Bautista.The win was big for Bautista who kept his record unblemished and was able to set a title match against WBO Super Bantamweight Titlist, Daniel Ponce De Leon on February 2007.Also extatic about Bautista's Dcember 2 win was Oscar "Golden Boy" De La Hoya, who is the Filipino's promoter. De La Hoya even dubbed Bautista as "The Next Manny Pacquiao" prior to the fight.The 20 yrs-old Bautista improved to 21-0 (16KOs) while Andrade dropped to 52-10 (43KOs).
